Limoges is the capital of Limousin with a popultaion of around 200,000 people.
Situated on the banks of the Vienne the city once supported a large industrial past and had a reputation as a hotbed of political activity.
The city offers the visitor great nightlife due to a large university presence.
Its monuments and Medieval bell tower spires are coloured in pink from the Limoges granite. The Evêché municipal museum (Enamel Museum) are reminders of Limoges history and have existed here for over 1,000 years.
Limoges offers many craft workshops producing various souvenirs.
The Porcelain Exhibition takes place during July and August and the popular Festival des Francophonies offers the visitor lectures, open air concerts and drama productions during September and October.
The Limousin region is popular for its various water sports from numerous lakes.
Limoges Bellegarde airport located approx 10 km from the city centre has flights direct from the UK and car hire is available from the airport location.
The railway station, an attraction in itself, operates a TGV service to and from Paris.
