Aurillac Airport

AURILLAC is the provincial capital of the Cantal and sits on the west slopes of the mountains (Massif Central), 100km North of Rodez and 160km south of Clermont-Ferrand. It has a pleasent feel to the old town and a few hours can be spent wandering the small side streets.

Local economy revoles around the manufacturer of umbrellas and more traditionally the lace-making and tanning industries.

Aurillac doesn't have any particular magnificent sites or historical monuments, the local church is worth a mention (St-Géraud) especially the internal ceiling, Aurillac has many small shadey squares providing a pleasant atmosphere to relax, shopping is good with plenty of up market shops to browse.

Following the 'Route des Cretes' from Aurillac you pass between the twin valleys of the Jordanne River and the Authre River affording the visitor spectacular views across the mountains of Cantal.
